FROM AN EXISTING FOLDING PATTERN, TRANSFORMING INTO PERSONAL TRANSITIONAL SYSTEMS
Context:
These insects carry an incredible deployment wing system, which allows them to quickly fold their very large wings into a complex closing mechanism. Fascinated to observe and discover nature’s ingenious into my personal design explorations. From an existing folding pattern, translating into a personal transitional system.
Opportunities:
My aim was to observe nature, focusing specifically on the folding system, and reinterpret it as a design possibility. The process diverged from
conventional methods, where one typically seeks a solution to an existing problem. In this case, I chose instead to explore without
predetermined outcome, allowing the natural progression of the inquiry to guide me toward unforeseen possibilities
By experimenting with various folding techniques, this pattern enabled me to explore diverse possibilities of transformation. By creating two identical versions of
the same sheet of paper and joining them side by side, I was able to generate a symmetrical, three-dimensional structure. This structure exhibited intriguing transformations and, in some way, evoked the form of a ladybug.
From the previous design, I selected and cropped a more organic shape, then inverted the plane and attached the elements in a different configuration.
as illustrated in the images. This approach allowed the structure to adopt a more ergonomic form while enhancing its overall stability and foundation.
